It was an incredible moment for Spain’s Ansu Fati when the 17-year-old Barcelona youngster claimed another record on his first start for the national team.
The youngster had a full debut for Spain in their Nations League win over Ukraine played at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Sunday night.
Ansu Fati who was handed his first start for the national side by manager Luis Enrique won a penalty after just 100 seconds of the clash.
The penalty was duly converted by Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, but Spain’s third goal came from the boot of Fati himself with the youngster collecting the ball outside the penalty area and firing a pinpoint shot into the bottom corner of the post.
The goal meant more history for the teenager, who is already the youngest ever scorer both in the Champions League, and for Barcelona in La Liga. He is now the youngest goal-scorer in Spain’s history at the age of 17 years and 311 days.
With this stunning achievement, it means the rising star broke the record that was set in 1925 by Juan Errazquin, who was 18 years and 344 days old when he struck three times against Switzerland.
It was really a huge landmark in Fati’s career to be called up to Spain’s senior squad and he earned his first cap earlier in the week by coming off the bench against Germany.
Ansu Fati, born in Guinea-Bissau, joined Barcelona’s youth system when he was 10 years old. He made his senior debut in August 2019 where he became the club’s youngest ever scorer when he struck against Osasuna less than a week later.
Currently tied to the club until 2022, he ended the season with eight goals from 33 games in all competitions for the Camp Nou side.
