FG Orders all Unity Schools to Reopen October 12

The Federal Government has ordered unity schools in the country to reopen on October 12, 2020. All unity schools across the country had been closed for over 6 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu made this announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

Adamu warned that schools who fail to adhere to outlined COVID-19 safety protocols, risk closure if there is an outbreak from such institutions.

He said, “The decision was reached after exhaustive discussions with education stakeholders in the public and private sector as well as consultations with the PTF. All state and private schools are to work out their modalities to reopen their schools.

“All unity schools (Federal Government Colleges) should open by October 12. I’m glad to report that there has not been any single case of COVID-19 in all Unity Schools. No single fatality among the students.”

The minister also noted that the attention of the federal government is open to the international media on how the international community is addressing the pandemic issued at various schools.
