President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday declared that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that the October 10 gubernatorial election in Ondo State is peaceful, transparent and credible.
He also assured the electorate in Ondo of the provision of adequate security to forestall any breach of the peace by unscrupulous elements.
This was disclosed by the special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement titled, ‘President Buhari: All necessary measures in place to ensure peaceful, transparent and credible gubernatorial election in Ondo.’
Adesina stated that the President made this commitment in a video message to party supporters at the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress campaign for the governorship election.
According to the statement,” The President urged the electorate to turn out en masse to vote on Saturday without fear of molestation.”
It was said that the President “expressed confidence that the party supporters will vote in accordance with the laws guiding the Electoral Process.”
Meanwhile, the major contender in the Ondo Governorship election yesterday signed a peace accord superintended by the National Peace Committee (NPC) headed by a former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd).
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is seeking re-election on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform and is contesting against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede; and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and his estranged deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi.
