The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) is set to begin the conduct of COVID-19 test after receiving an approval from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
This was disclosed by the Acting Provost of the College, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya on Friday during the Induction Ceremony of the 15th Set of Medical Doctors/5th Set of Dental Surgeons held in Ikeja.
Professor Abiodun stated that the Molecular Laboratory of the College has been granted license to operate, hence, the laboratory can conduct COVID-19 tests, among others.
He noted that LASUCOM, the second-best ranked university in Nigeria, is determined to improve on its mandate as a strategic partner to the Lagos State Government in strengthening the health sector by producing highly trained medical personnel.
The professor said that with the addition of the newly inducted 49Medical Doctors and seven Dental Surgeons to the pool of practitioners in the county, the College has produced 858 medical personnel to date.
While thanking the Lagos State Government for its unflinching support to the College in its desire of becoming the best medical college in Africa, the Provost averred that despite the pandemic, the College has
continued to attract research grants.
Addressing the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, SAN, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin), Prof. Oyedamola Oke, urged the Inductees to be committed to excellence and professionalism
He charged them to use their acquired competencies to bring about desirable transformation in healthcare delivery.
