Lagos state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi on Sunday disclosed that the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is responding well to home-based care and treatment for COVID-19.
This disclosure comes two days after Governor Sanwo-Olu was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 and experiencing symptoms and fatigue typical of a mild case of the disease.
The governor is said to be receiving treatment and closely monitored at home by the very experienced State COVID-19 clinical team from IDH Yaba.
Professor Abayomi, who had earlier promised in a tweet to keep the public informed regularly of the governor’s recovery and wellbeing, assured that Sanwo-Olu is doing well on treatment and rest and confident that he will recover quickly and clear the virus.
The commissioner also emphasized that the state is witnessing a slightly increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in clusters. He advised all residents and visitors to strictly adhere to the prescribed advisories of safe distancing, mask-wearing, good hand and respiratory hygiene and avoidance of unnecessary or large gatherings.
He said the festive season is likely to create the opportunity for the virus to spread if residents are not compliant with the regulations established by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) for inbound travellers and the festive season celebrations.
He further advised Lagosians to keep celebrations to a minimum and be observant and responsible in their interactions as no one is immune to the virus and it is certainly still circulating in the community.
“The significant gains achieved to date in containing COVID-19 in Lagos, which has allowed us to carefully reopen the economy, must not be reversed,” the commissioner said.
