Oyo State Government has announced Tuesday, August 10, 2021 as public holiday to commemorate and celebrate the new Islamic calendar year, 1st muharram (Hijrah) 1443 AH.
The announcement by the state government came after the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, declared Tuesday as the “first day of Muharram, 1443 AH after considering the report of the National Moon Sighting Committee.
In a circular letter from the Office of the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Gov. Seyi Makinde enjoined all and sundry to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and sustainability of the state in particular and the country in general.
Similarly, the Katsina and Jigawa State Government had also both declared Monday as work-free day to commemorate the new Islamic year.
