Antonio Conte is likely the next man to take over the managerial job at Tottenham after the club announced its decision to part ways with Nuno Esprito Santo after only four months in charge.
Spurs had earlier negotiated with Conte following Jose Mourinho’s exit but were unable to reach an agreement then.
Hopefully a deal will be agreed upon now as Conte wants to get back into management after leaving Inter in the summer and has since remain out of job.
Nuno was appointed on a two-year contract in June but departs after 17 matches in charge of which he lost five of his past seven league matches, including Saturday’s defeat by Manchester United.
Though the former Wolves manager had a strong first start with three straight Premier League wins, and was named August’s manager of the month but Spurs are currently eighth in the Premier League and 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.
A short statement on the club’s website confirmed the sacking: “The Club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.”
Fabio Paratici, Managing Director Football, said: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.
“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.
“A further coaching update will follow in due course.”
