The Lagos State Government on Friday presented insurance benefits worth N81,423,214.14 to sixteen families of deceased civil servants who died between years 2020 and 2021 while in service.
Presenting the cheques to beneficiaries, the Hon. Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Temitope Hundogan, stated that the payment of death benefits to the families of deceased members of staff was a matter of responsibility and obligation by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
His words: “The primary objective of the payment of insurance death benefits is essentially to provide succour for the immediate families, dependants and other beneficiaries of the deceased”.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his demonstrated commitment to the wellbeing of members of staff.
Hundogan explained that the payment of insurance premium for late civil servants was part of the welfare package for the State’s workforce, adding that the government prioritises the welfare of workers.
“The State Government commiserates with these families and it is further committed to ensuring that this is done regularly as today’s presentation covers the year 2020 to 2021,” he said.
The Deputy Director, Insurance, Mr. Isaac Oluwole, revealed that the payment was made possible with the prompt and consistent payment of insurance premiums by the State Government.
While responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Pastor Adekunle Ajibodu, thanked the State Government for implementing the death insurance benefits and prayed for continuity and progress of the State.
“The Lagos State Government is number one in taking care of the workforce,” he declared.
