The Nigerian Army has confirmed that it lost an officer and a soldier in an attack on troops of 2 Brigade on Thursday morning.
A group of unknown gunmen suspected to be sea pirates had attacked the troops at about 11am while they (troops) were on patrol along the waterways in the general area of Abonemma in Akukutoru local government of Rivers State.
A statement issued by the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Captain Eli Lazarus, disclosed that the soldiers “displayed extraordinary valour during the encounter.”
Lazarus said in the statement that the Army is “in pursuit of the criminals and we will surely get them.”
“All law abiding citizens are urged to remain calm and go about their lawful activities. The Army will continue to make necessary sacrifices to ensure sustainable peace and security of lives and property of everyone in the state,” the statement said.
