Manchester United’s hopes of getting to the next stage of the Europa League suffered a massive setback on Thursday night.
United were chased out of the competition by their arch rival in the Premier League, Liverpool, at Old Trafford.
The former Champions League winner played a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, after a 2-0 loss last week at Anfield.
Liverpool went through to the last eight on 3-1 aggregate.
Also, Tottenham could not advance to the next round after they were beaten at White Hart Lane by Borussia Dortmund 2-1.
The German club came into the match with a three goal advantage and went through to last eight on 5-1 aggregate.
