Senate Suspends Deliberations On 2016 Budget

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday adjourned till Wednesday deliberations on report of the 2016 Appropriations Bill presented today on the floor of the Senate by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje.

The red chamber of the National Assembly majorly postponed the plenary to honour late Hon Musa Baba Onwana of Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency.

Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, had notified the Senate of the demise of the lawmaker and moved for a minute silence to respect the dead.

He further moved that the Senate suspend plenary to honour the legislator.

After the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, asked his colleagues to suspend plenary in honour of the departed Honourable and the agreed, he adjourned plenary to Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

Senator Goje had presented the report of the 2016 Appropriations Bill on the floor of the Senate for deliberations, but this would now be possible tomorrow.

Also, the Senate received the report of the Conference Committee on the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).

Finally, in accordance with Section 85(2) and (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic, the Senate received the Annual Report of the Auditor-General of the Federation on the Accounts of the Federation of Nigeria for the year ended 31st December, 2014.

However, the Senate is optimistic that the budget would be passed before the end of the week.
