On Wednesday, June 1, 2016, two members of the House of Representatives switched camp from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The two federal lawmakers disclosed that dumping the opposition party for the ruling party due to division in the PDP.
The affected congressmen are Tony Nwoye from Anambra State and Udende Emmanuel from Benue State.
In separate letters read by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, on the floor of the House from the two members, they claimed since the PDP had allegedly broken into three factions, which is headed by Ali Modu Sheriff, Ahmed Makarfi and Jerry Gana, they do not wish to belong to any of the factions.
Consequently, the Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, in a point of order rose to protest the position of the members alleging that the PDP was divided.
According to him, no recognized institution such, as the courts, had ruled that the party had split into factions.
Commenting on this, the Speaker said there was no need to debate the matter as the issues of the PDP will be handled at its national level.
