On Monday, July 18, 2016, some women took to the streets of Lagos to demand an apology from Senator Dino Melaye for insulting his colleague, Oluremi Tinubu.
They aggrieved women, who carried placards conveying various messages in Ikeja, said they were not happy that the former Lagos First Lady was ‘abused’ by the Kogi lawmaker.
The women claimed an injury to one of them is an injury to all women in Nigeria and asked the lawmaker to tender an apology.
But the protest by these women has come under harsh criticisms.
Some Nigerians who reacted to the demonstration in Lagos on Monday described the women and jobless.
They claimed the protesters were rented by Tinubu apologists and further described the demonstration as a total show of shame.
“Where were these women when a female Christian preacher was killed in Abuja some days ago?” Some of the commenters queried.
“Hired fools! When shall thou receive wisdom,” another Nigerian living in Ogun State posted on Facebook.
“Seriously??? Whose mothers are these? Aight. I give up,” a top female activist in Lagos said.
“This is what you get when women ain’t empowered!!! Jobless Women!!! When last did you PROTEST when Muslim youths killed a woman in Abuja??? Dino no get una time self,” a lady said.
