Fashola Goes Hard On Striking LASU Staff

Applies ‘No Work, No Pay’ Rule

Lagos State Government has threatened to apply the ‘no work no pay’ rule on the striking workers of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University chapter.

Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on Education, Otunba Fatai Olukoga, said the law, approved by the governor, would be applied in its strictest measure, describing the action as unwholesome. The government explained the rule is to make the union understand that the issues it raised and reasons for the strike did not qualify for such action.

Olukoga further disclosed that apart from the workers losing their salaries, they will not also have their check-off dues deducted while they stand the risk of suffering other disciplinary measures.

The government, however, assured members of the union who wish to continue working of adequate protection against any form of harassment, advising such workers to feel free to report on Monday for duty at the university where a register would be opened for them.
