Some polytechnics students were on Wednesday afternoon nabbed by a team of anti-riot policemen in Lagos during a peaceful demonstration. The students were protesting their continuous stay at home due to the strike embarked on by their lecturers some months ago.
Over 100 of them were picked up by the battle-ready mobile police officers near the Adekunle end of Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
The armed officers reportedly fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrating students, which made them to scamper for safety and got many of them injured in the process. Some of them were later packed into the waiting Black Maria trucks.
The students accused President Goodluck Jonathan of neglecting their lecturers by not honouring an agreement reached between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP.
