Owner of one of the most successful football clubs in the world, Manchester United, Malcolm Glazer, has passed on. The rich American business mogul died on Wednesday.
Glazer gave up the ghost after falling ill since 2006, a year after he bought the English club. He had a pair of strokes, which left him with impaired speech and limited movement in his right arm and leg.
His NFL club, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, announced his demise on their website on Wednesday and further disclosed that the Glazer family would host a private family funeral service, with a public memorial to be announced later.
Glazer acquired Man Utd for about £790 million. Under his ownership, the club clinched five Premier League titles as well as a Champions League trophy in 2008. The deceased’s two sons; Joel and Avram are joint chairmen of United’s board. His other children; Kevin, Bryan, Darcie and Edward, are the club’s directors, while the family controls 90 percent of the club’s shares.
Manchester United was listed in the New York Stock Exchange in 2012.
