Atletico Madrid new signing, Luis Suarez, had a stunning impact on his debut for his new club on Sunday, scoring twice and providing an assist as his side crushed Granada 6-1 at home in their first game of the La Liga season.

Luis Suarez scored fifteen minutes into his Atletico Madrid debut after coming on as a second-half substitute in the 6-1 thrashing of Granada.

Diego Simeone named his new signing among the subs against Granada. The 33-year-old watched on as goals from Diego Costa, Angel Correa and Joao Felix gave the hosts a 3-0 lead after 65 minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The coach then sent on Suarez with 20 minutes remaining – and the veteran striker’s performance suggests Barça may have made a huge mistake letting him leave for a La Liga rival.

It took the Suarez just two minutes to make his first key contribution in an Atletico shirt. He cleverly flicked the ball through to Marcos Llorente, who made no mistake from just inside the box.

Then, with just six minutes left of normal time to play, Suarez opened his account with a brilliant back-post header to put Atletico 5-0 up.

Though Granada pulled a consolation goal back through Jorge Molina, but Suarez wasn’t done yet. The former Barcelona star netted his second goal of the afternoon in the third minute of stoppage time after seeing his initial strike come back off the post.

This clearly shows Suarez has not lost any of his magic, judging by his sterling performance and thereby proves Lionel Messi right for being so upset that Barcelona have sold his mate.

The Uruguayan completed his switch to Atletico from Barcelona on Friday in an agreed fee of £5.5million.
