First Phase of COVID-19 Vaccination Only For Health, Frontline Workers—Prof. Abayomi

Abayomi on COVID vaccination

In an attempt to prevent cases of overcrowding in COVID-19 vaccination centres across the state, the Lagos state government has clarified that the first phase of the ongoing exercise is strictly for health workers, frontline staff and essential duty personnel.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the state had been witnessing a high turnout of residents in various vaccination centres which signifies a high level acceptance of the vaccine but the exercise needs to be coordinated in order to prevent imminent chaos as well as achieve success in the vaccination campaign.

Abayomi, who made this clarification known on Thursday, noted that those eligible to take part in phase one of the vaccination campaign include healthcare workers; COVID-19 response team (RRT); ports of entry staff in air, land, and seaports; laboratory network; judiciary; military, police, other security agencies; petrol station workers; teachers; press and other frontline workers.

The vaccination exercise in Lagos had commenced on March 15 in 88 health facilities, including military and police hospitals.

Abayomi advised residents to be patient as they await commencement of the phase they fit into as the vaccination exercise plan had been scheduled into four phases in order to achieve the overall objective of the campaign.

“To access the COVID vaccine, eligible citizens who fit into phase one eligibility list must proceed to register or enrol for the vaccine via the self-registration portal: https://www.nphcdaict.com.ng or https://www.vaccination.gov.ng.

“A vaccination ID will be generated, and a confirmation text message and email will be sent to each enrollee. After successfully registering for the vaccination, successful enrollees should then proceed to any of the 88 vaccination sites picked at the point of registration with the vaccination ID, the confirmation text along with a means of ID to get the first dose of the vaccine.
