Zamfara Governor Approves “Shoot On Sight” Order

The Governor of Zamfara state, Bello Mattawalle has ordered the Zamfara State Police and other government security agencies to effectively implement the Presidential order to shoot on sight at bandits, persons or group of people seen with Ak-47 or any weapons.

The governor who disclosed this via his Twitter handle on Wednesday said only those approved by law or the security agencies are permitted to carry guns and other sophisticated weapons.

Therefore, according to the tweets by Mattawalle, anyone found in unlawful possession of guns should be shot on the spot.

The governor further stated that his administration will always support the police and other security agencies with all the necessary logistics so as to discharge their duties effectively.

Zamfara state is one of the northern states that have constantly been under violent attacks by armed bandits.

It will be recalled that on Thursday 11 March, 2021, the presidency released a 12-second video clip, where President Buhari at a meeting with the National Council of Traditional Rulers held at the State House, Abuja, personally reinforced the directive, that anyone carrying an AK-47 Rifle illegally, should be shot, because according to the president, “AK-47 is supposed to be registered and only given to security officials.”
