Members of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, have been directed to embark on an indefinite industrial action from Tuesday, July 1, 2014. President of the body, Kayode Obembe, at a press briefing in Abuja, accused the Federal Government of not paying attention to NMA’s demands.
He said the body has been left with no other option than to go on strike.
Obembe said the NMA is taking the decision to save the health sector.
According to him, the body is asking for the immediate passage of the National Health Bill, payment of 100,000 Naira hazard allowance to medical doctors, skipping of level 12 by medical and dental practitioners and appointment of a Surgeon-General of the Federation.
The President also said that the association is also demanding the stoppage of the appointment of non-doctors as directors and consultants.
