Members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly engaged themselves in a free-for-all on Tuesday and broke the official mace of the House in the process. During the melee, the mace was broken to pieces.
This was as a result of the debate over the request by the state government to secure a loan of N3 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
During the deliberations, lawmakers elected into the Assembly under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, backed the request, while those from the opposition, Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, strongly rejected the idea.
Those opposed to the move argued that the government must first of all state how the money would be spent.
