Ebola Infected Spanish Priest Dies

The first European to be infected with the feared Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, Miguel Pajares, has died in a Madrid hospital in Spain.

Pajares, 75, was said to have died of the disease on Tuesday. He was a Spanish priest airlifted from Liberia on August 7, 2014, after contracting Ebola while working for a non-governmental organization in the West African country.

A spokeswoman of Madrid’s health authorities announced the development on Tuesday, but declined to state when the priest actually died of the disease.

The deceased was quarantined at the Carlos III Hospital in the Spanish capital, where he was treated with the experimental ZMapp drug, which was manufactured by a US-based company, Mapp Biopharmaceutical.

However, two American aid workers infected by the disease, after being given the same drug, have shown significant signs of improvements.

Nigeria has already recorded 10 cases of person infected with the Ebola disease, while 177 have been placed under surveillance.
