An embarrassing moment reared its ugly head on Wednesday in Kano when some reporters were locked in a room following a missing mobile phone belonging to Senator Gbenga Obadara.
The lawmaker from Ogun State in the upper chamber of the National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had visited the headquarters of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, in Kano as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power.
The electricity distribution company had been battling with allegations of withdrawing the sum of N670m from revenue it generated from the zone for the purchase of the Kaduna Power Company.
After meeting with the management of KEDCO at its boardroom behind closed door, journalists were later allowed in, but shortly after, there was an announcement that the Senator’s phone was missing, which made security operatives at the hall to order a search on all journalists at the boardroom.
Following the order, reporters were prevented from leaving the boardroom and were thoroughly searched.
According to reports, 10 minutes later, someone from outside informed the security officials that the lawmaker’s mobile phone has been found, which angered the newsmen.
However, to avoid more embarrassment, KEDCO’s Principal Manager, Corporate Communications, Mutari Usman, apologised to the angry journalists.
