The mosque is attached to Emir of Kano’s palace.

The incident is coming a week after the Emir, Lamido Sanusi, urged worshippers to take up arms against the Boko Haram sect, which is responsible for the death of several lives in the north east region of Nigeria.

A rescue official told AFP in Kano on Friday that the casualty figures could “climb”.
