Terrorists Kill 18 In Borno Communities

Suspected members of Boko Haram militants attacked some villages in Konduga local council of Borno State in the wee hours of Sunday, leaving not less than 18 persons dead.

Eyewitnesses claimed the insurgents stormed the town in motorcycles and Hilux vehicles while residents were fast asleep, unleashing terror on them.

The terrorists were said to have also set some houses ablaze during the raid, which last for hours.

Malari and other villages in Konduga local government were reportedly touched by the insurgents. Several residents of the areas fled to bushes around and some to Maiduguri, which is about 35 kilometres from the scene of the attack.

However, Commissioner of Police in the state, Opadokun Aderemi, who confirmed the attack said only “nine persons were reported killed, while 10 were injured. The village is not far from Alau Dam that supplies water to Maiduguri and its environs.”

He said further that those injured in the attack are being treated at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, while security is already beefed up to forestall a recurrence, adding that investigation is in progress.”
