DSS Begs To Suspend Nnamdi Kanu’s Case

The Department of State Services, DSS, has requested to halt the hearing of the case against leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, at a Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

On Monday, the director of Radio Biafra was finally brought to court amidst watertight security.

At the hearing, the country’s secret police prayed that the court discontinue the matter and it be taken to another court.

The prosecuting counsel argued that facts have emerged which would require the matter be moved from the jurisdiction of the magistrates court.

But the defending counsel informed the court that the DSS could not pick someone from Lagos, transport him to Abuja and violate the court and then suddenly stumble on new facts that would mandate that the case be transferred to a competent court of law. According to him, the DSS has no right to his client in their facility.

Kanu’s counsel urged the court not to grant the prayer of the prosecuting counsel until compliance is made with the orders of the court.

However, the matter was adjourned by the court to Tuesday, December 1, 2015, for ruling on the application to discontinue the case.
